Leucorrhoea, also known as vaginal discharge is a common medical condition characterized by a flow of greenish, yellowish or white discharge from the vagina. The discharge flow may just be normal or but it can also indicate an infection. In most instances, the discharge may be from the cervix, fallopian tube, vagina or ovaries. It is a common occurrence during pregnancy. This condition has been experienced by most women across all ages at one point or the other in life.

Vaginal discharge may be odorless as in the case of pregnancy. The normal, harmless condition called physiologic leucorrhoea occurs during the first year of menses in adolescent and in some instances newborn girls. But in most other cases, especially where the discharge is yellow or green, accompanied by itching and offensive smell, vaginal discharge is a sign of infection.

Always use plain soaps to clean the vaginal area. Plain soaps are preferable because they don’t have additives like dye and scent. Be careful not over wash as this may irritate the body, exposing the vagina to heavier infection/discharge.
